How Do I Get My Cat to Stop Scratching My Sheets?
Cats love to scratch – it helps them to keep their claws sharp and stretch their muscles. But when your beloved feline decides to scratch away at your sheets it can cause plenty of damage. So, what can you do to get them to stop this destructive habit?
How To Discourage Scratching:
- Trim their claws regularly! Doing this will reduce their urge to scratch, as the claws won’t become as sharp. Be sure to use a claw clipper designed for cats and don’t forget to reward them for good behavior.
- Provide a scratching post! Cats need an alternative to scratching furniture and other items in your home. Get a scratching post, cardboard scratching pad, or a sisal-covered scratching board, and place it in an area where your cat likes to scratch. Sprinkle a little catnip on it to make it more attractive.
- Cover the areas that they scratch with double sided sticky tape or aluminium foil. This unpleasant sensation will discourage them from using your sheets as a scratching post.
- Keep your cat entertained. Bored cats tend to look for ways to amuse themselves, and scratching can be just the answer! Keep your cat amused with interactive games, toys, and lots of love.
By following these tips, you’ll hopefully be able to stop the pesky scratching of your sheets, and keep your cat’s claws in fine condition!
